Theo Geisel is Emeritus Professor of Theoretical Physics at the University of Göttingen and former Director at the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics and Self-Organization. His research spans:
- Nonlinear dynamics in neural networks and synchronization phenomena
- Applications in computational neuroscience and cortical information processing
- Quantum chaos in semiconductor nanostructures
- Mathematical epidemiology and human mobility patterns
- Physics of music including jazz microtiming analysis
He founded and coordinated the Bernstein Center for Computational Neuroscience (2004-2013) and received a Heisenberg Fellowship. His group studies unstable attractors in neural networks and their role in cognitive flexibility.
