Thassilo Hazod is a cultural anthropologist and university assistant (prae doc) at the Vienna Doctoral School of Historical and Cultural Studies, affiliated with the Institute for European Ethnology at the University of Vienna. He is currently completing his doctoral thesis on family farms with direct marketing.

His research focuses on economic anthropology, family and kinship studies, and rural areas, utilizing ethnographic methods with additional interests in gender studies, historical anthropology, and visual documentation through photography and film.
Recent publications highlight his work on direct marketing practices among family farms in Upper Austria, analyzing intersections between economic autonomy, labor valuation, and sociopolitical pressures. His 2019 monograph examines family identity negotiation through photo interviews with Viennese Roma communities.

Active in academic communities, Hazod serves as editor of the Österreichische Zeitschrift für Volkskunde (since 2022) and heads the working group Forum urban_land_scapes (since 2023), with membership in multiple research networks including the Vienna Workshop Ethnography.
