Thareerat Laohabut

Thareerat Laohabut is a Research Fellow and Doctoral Researcher at the Chair of Comparative Political Science (led by Prof. Dr. Nicole Bolleyer) within the Geschwister Scholl Institute of Political Science at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. Her doctoral project investigates electoral behaviors and trajectories of new political parties in 13 European multilevel systems, examining how new parliamentary parties adapt to multilevel electoral structures.

She holds a Master's degree from the Erasmus Mundus Václav Havel Joint Master Programme in European Politics and Society, having studied at Charles University (Czech Republic), Leiden University (Netherlands), and Pompeu Fabra University (Spain). Her thesis on polarization and party system deinstitutionalization in Western Europe received an exceptional grade of 9.2/10. Following her studies, she completed a Schuman Traineeship at the European Parliament's Unit for Asia, Australia, and New Zealand.

Her research focuses on two interconnected strands: comparative party politics (party behaviors, competition, and new party evolution) and regime transition/authoritarianism (competitive authoritarianism and autocratic politics). Her work includes analyzing movement parties in non-European contexts, exemplified by her publication on Thailand's Move Forward Party.
