معرفی
Professor Terry P. Orlando is a faculty member at MIT's Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, part of the College of Engineering. He leads the Engineering Quantum Systems Group within the Research Laboratory of Electronics (RLE). He earned his B.S. in Physics from Louisiana State University (1974), followed by M.S. and Ph.D. in Physics from Stanford University (1976 and 1981). His research focuses on superconducting circuits for quantum computation and nonlinear dynamical systems in quantum-classical crossover regimes. He authored textbooks on superconductivity and quantum mechanics.
Orlando's work includes developing scalable quantum algorithms, optimizing qubit design, and improving signal amplification in quantum systems. He collaborates with national labs via the National Quantum Information Science Research Centers. He received a $5.7M DURINT Award in 2001 for quantum computation research. Notable advisees include Rhodes Scholars Megan Yamoah, Billy Woltz, and Francisca Vasconcelos.
He has served as housemaster at Ashdown House since 2001, contributing to graduate student life. His group's research spans topics like Josephson junctions, graphene-based heterostructures, and quasiparticle dynamics. Recent publications address noise reduction, low-loss dielectrics, and hybrid quantum systems.
