Terry O'Kane

Dr. Terry O'Kane is Senior Principal Research Scientist and Group Leader of Modelling the Earth System at CSIRO. He leads projects on causal inference in multiscale systems and development of the CAFE60 climate reanalysis system. Adjunct positions include professorships at University of Tasmania and ARC Centre for Climate Extremes.

Research develops ensemble prediction systems for Earth's climate, focusing on data assimilation methodologies and decadal forecasting. The CAFE60 system provides large ensemble climate reconstructions spanning six decades, enabling probabilistic climate studies through open data access via Amazon Web Services.

Professional recognition includes 2023 Fellowship of Australian Mathematical Society, 2022 Doctor of Science from University of Melbourne, and 2013 JH Michell Medal for applied mathematics. Dr. O'Kane co-chairs the World Climate Research Program Grand Challenge for Near Term Climate Forecasting and serves on multiple high-performance computing assessment panels.
