Professor Teresa Webber FBA is a British paleographer and medievalist affiliated with the University of Cambridge's Faculty of History and Trinity College. She has held the position of Professor of Paleography since 2018 and is a Fellow of Trinity College since 1997. Previously, she served as the J. P. R. Lyell Reader in Bibliography at the University of Oxford (2015–2016), delivering lectures on monastic reading practices in medieval England.
Education: Studied Modern History as an undergraduate at Somerville College, Oxford.
Research focuses on medieval book production, ownership, and use, with special attention to scribes and scripts in 11th–13th century England. Her work intersects palaeography, codicology, and the social history of medieval manuscripts. Key research areas include Anglo-Saxon and Anglo-Norman historical contexts, monastic libraries, and institutional manuscript practices.
Publications include seminal works on Salisbury Cathedral's scribes and Augustinian Canons' libraries. Awards include Fellowships from the British Academy (2017), Royal Historical Society (2001), and Society of Antiquaries (2003).
Teaching and supervision emphasize palaeography, codicology, and medieval manuscript analysis. She has advised students on topics spanning medieval manuscripts and their historical frameworks.
