Teresa Senserrick

Teresa Senserrick is a Professor in the School of Psychological Science at The University of Western Australia (UWA), located on Whadjuk Noongar country. She is Director of the Western Australian Centre for Road Safety Research, a joint initiative with the WA Road Safety Commission. Her research focuses on road safety, particularly equity in licensing systems, youth and young adult safety, and transport justice for First Nations peoples. She has led projects across high- and low-to-middle-income countries, emphasizing culturally responsive approaches.

Education: PhD in Psychology (University of Melbourne, 2002) and BA(Hons) in Psychology (University of Melbourne, 1991). She advises Honours students on projects like improving neurodivergent youth’s access to driver’s licenses. Awards include the 2023 School of Psychological Science Award for Research Impact and Innovation.

Research interests include road safety education, licensing systems, and addressing disparities in road safety outcomes for marginalized groups. Key areas of study involve distracted driving, graduated licensing systems, and safe school bus transportation for children with neurodevelopmental disorders.

Grants include the WestCycle Annual Activation Program Evaluation (2025–2025), Road Research Services contracts (2025–2026), and a Main Roads WA Fellowship (2024–2028). Projects emphasize policy evaluation, community engagement, and data-driven interventions. She collaborates internationally and has published over 200 peer-reviewed articles.

Labs/Teams: Directs the Western Australian Centre for Road Safety Research, fostering interdisciplinary approaches to road safety challenges. Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly education and equity.
