Teresa Sabourin

Dr. Teresa Sabourin is a Professor of Communication at the University of Cincinnati, where she has served since 1984. She previously held leadership roles as Graduate Director (1992-2002) and Department Head (2002-2011). Her research focuses on family communication, particularly domestic violence, homelessness, and recovery processes. She earned her Ph.D. in Communication from Purdue University (1986), and earlier degrees from Cleveland State University.

Her work bridges interpersonal communication and societal issues, with notable contributions including The Contemporary American Family: A Dialectical Perspective on Communication and Relationships. Her research explores narrative analyses of abuse, relational control in violent relationships, and communication patterns in abusive vs. nonabusive families.
