Teresa Crowe

Teresa Crowe is a Professor of Social Work in the School of Civic Leadership, Business and Social Change at Gallaudet University. She holds a PhD in Social Work from the University of Maryland, Baltimore (2000), an MSW from Gallaudet University (1992), and a BA in Psychology/Social Work from the University of Maryland-Baltimore County (1987). Her research focuses on mental health access and resilience in Deaf communities, addressing issues like telemental health, substance use, domestic violence, and equity in public health services.

Research Interests: Dr. Crowe’s work centers on improving mental health outcomes for Deaf individuals through culturally competent interventions. Key areas include telehealth accessibility, trauma-informed care, and reducing health disparities. Her recent projects examine pandemic impacts on Deaf students, ethics in telemental health, and domestic violence interventions tailored for Deaf populations.

Teaching & Advising: Teaches courses like Social Work Perspectives on Dysfunction, Qualitative Social Work Research, and Deaf & Hard of Hearing Populations. Supervises graduate students in clinical practicums and thesis/dissertation committees. Advised over 70 students between 2016-2024.

Professional Service: Served as Department Chair (2014-2018), MSW Assessment Coordinator (2000-2017), and on editorial/advisory boards for NASW Legal Defense Fund, CE4Less, and Urban Social Work Journal. Conducts training on ethics, mandatory reporting, and crisis intervention for healthcare professionals.

Labs & Collaborations: Collaborates with the Technology Access Program (TAP) and Disability Without Abuse on telebehavioral health initiatives. Partners with agencies like MidShore Mental Health Systems and Barrier Free Living to evaluate Deaf-specific service programs.
