Dr. Teresa Ching is an Honorary Professor at the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, University of Queensland, and an affiliate of the University of Queensland Centre for Hearing Research (CHEAR). Her research focuses on pediatric audiology, cochlear implants, speech perception in hearing-impaired populations, and early hearing detection/intervention (EHDI) programs. She has contributed to global guidelines for EHDI and investigates psychosocial outcomes in deaf/hard-of-hearing children through longitudinal studies like the LOCHI project.
Her work addresses accessibility challenges in hearing healthcare for culturally diverse populations and explores audiological assessment methods for infants and children. Collaborations across disciplines include speech-language pathology, neuroscience, and community health. Key areas of interest also include mild/unilateral hearing loss management and cross-cultural validation of assessment tools.
Dr. Ching has led studies on speech recognition in noise for cochlear implant users and co-authored research on Mandarin speech audiometry. Her contributions span clinical guidelines, policy development, and translational research in hearing rehabilitation.
