Teodora Gliga is a Professor of Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of East Anglia's School of Psychology, leading the Developmental Science group. She joined in 2018 after completing a Molecular Biology undergraduate degree at the University of Bucharest and Ecole Normale Supérieure (Lyon), followed by a PhD in Cognitive Sciences at Paris. Her research focuses on sensory processing, sleep-based learning, and language acquisition in infants, particularly those at risk of neurodevelopmental disorders like autism. She leads major projects such as SNOOSE (investigating sensory influences on sleep) and BLoCKS (exploring language-concept links in deaf and hearing children). Awards include the British Psychological Society's Neil O'Connor Award (2016).
Her key interests include understanding how sensory experiences and sleep impact cognitive development, and how language shapes perception. She uses EEG, eye-tracking, and behavioral methods. Notable collaborations span global institutions, addressing autism screening in low-resource settings (e.g., India). Media highlights include studies on sleep's role in learning and autism detection via touch responses. She actively mentors students and volunteers in community initiatives like the Norfolk Deaf Celebration Day.
- Administrative Roles: Group Lead for Developmental Science
- Editorial: Associate Editor of Royal Society Open Science
