Tekla Mecsnóber

T.D. (Tekla) Mecsnóber is an Assistant Professor at the University of Groningen’s Faculty of Arts, affiliated with the Department of English Language and Culture and the Research Centre Arts in Society (AiS). She holds a PhD in Modern English Literature from Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest, with additional qualifications in Theoretical Linguistics and Hungarian Literature. Her research focuses on modernist literature, particularly James Joyce, exploring themes like print culture, nationalism, typography, and translingual fiction. She has taught at institutions in Hungary, Belgium, and the Netherlands, with extended research stays in the UK, Ireland, and Switzerland. Mecsnóber’s work bridges literary criticism, cultural studies, and historical analysis, emphasizing Joyce’s engagement with language politics and visual design. She supervises MA theses and leads projects such as Rewriting Joyce’s Europe, examining the intersection of language and nationalism in modernist texts. Active in academic networks, she serves on editorial boards and organizes conferences on Joyce and global anglophone literature.
