Ted Higgs is an Adjunct Professor in the Division of Humanities at Maryville College, teaching English, History, Italian, and Latin. He holds multiple advanced degrees including M.A. in English, Latin, and Human Relations from the University of Oklahoma, and a CAGS in Human Services from Boston University. With nearly 35 years of college-level teaching experience, he has also served in the U.S. military for 25 years, including roles as commander of missile units in Greece, NATO staff officer in Italy, and exchange officer in the Italian Army. His career includes teaching at West Point, the University of Maryland's European Division in Italy, and the University of Kentucky.

His research interests span classical mythology, ancient warfare, Latin and Italian language instruction, and interdisciplinary humanities studies. At Maryville College, he reintroduced Latin and Italian courses to the curriculum, directed the Military Student Center, and advised the Student Veterans Association. His military service and international postings in Greece, Italy, and Belgium inform his teaching and cultural engagement.
Awarded honors for language proficiency in Modern Greek and Italian from the Defense Language Institute, he also contributed to cultural organizations in Northern Italy and taught American Studies in Italian. His career reflects a blend of military leadership, academic innovation, and cross-cultural education.
