Ted Cohen is a Professor of Epidemiology of Microbial Diseases at Yale School of Public Health, with joint appointments at Yale Institute for Global Health and African Studies. He holds degrees from Duke University (MD), University of North Carolina (MPH), Harvard School of Public Health (DPH), and Oberlin College (BA in Neuroscience).
- MD - Duke University (2001)
- MPH - University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill (2001)
- DPH - Harvard School of Public Health (2006)
- BA - Oberlin College, Neuroscience (1996)
His research focuses on tuberculosis epidemiology with emphasis on drug resistance, HIV co-infections, and genomic transmission analysis. He develops mathematical models and data-driven approaches to improve TB control strategies across Latin America, sub-Saharan Africa, and the United States.
Recent work includes 2024-2025 studies on:
- Geographic disparities in Brazil's TB diagnosis
- Post-TB sequelae burden in the US
- Omicron subvariant dynamics
- Genomic surveillance tools
- Correction of spatial modeling methods in Moldova
- Cost-effectiveness of targeted TB interventions
Scientific recognition includes:
- NIH New Innovator Award (2009)
- Connecticut Academy of Science and Engineering (2022)
- Leadership in the Yale Public Health Modeling Unit
He mentors through collaborations with the Cohen Lab, Yale-UPR Integrated HIV Initiative, and Public Health Data Science efforts, while directing NIH-funded projects on TB/HIV co-epidemics and antimicrobial resistance.
