Taufique Mahmood is an Associate Professor at the Harold Hamm School of Geology and Geological Engineering, University of North Dakota. His work focuses on cold region hydrology, climate change impacts, and remote sensing applications in geosciences.
- NSF CAREER Award (2022-2027)
- Dean’s Outstanding Faculty Award (2022)
- Founders Day UND Foundation/McDermott Award (2024)
Dr. Mahmood’s research spans cold region hydrologic modeling, climate-driven water security, and nutrient dynamics in agricultural landscapes. His recent publications highlight applications of remote sensing to map snow storage, analyze streamflow generation, and assess climate impacts on terminal lakes and polar ice masses.
- Ph.D., Geological Sciences, Arizona State University (2012)
- M.S., Engineering Science, University of Mississippi (2006)
- M.Sc. and B.Sc. in Geology, University of Dhaka (2003, 2001)
- Postdoctoral research in Snow Hydrology, University of Saskatchewan (2012-2015)
His funded projects include grants from NSF, Bureau of Reclamation, and USDA-NRCS, totaling over $1.5 million. He advises graduate students like Michaela Neal and leads outreach initiatives for tribal youth in cold region hydrology.
