Dr. Tasha Youstin is an Associate Professor in the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice at Western Carolina University (WCU), part of the College of Arts and Sciences. She joined WCU in 2016 and holds a PhD from John Jay College (CUNY) and a Master's from the University of Florida, along with a BA from Florida Atlantic University. Her research focuses on sex crime policies, gender and crime dynamics, life-course criminology, and environmental criminology, particularly examining how place and time influence criminal behavior.
Dr. Youstin's teaching spans over 15 university-level courses, with specialties in Statistics and Theories of Crime. Her research explores topics such as campus sexual assault prevention, victim services effectiveness, and the intersection of military service and criminal activity. She has contributed to understanding the efficacy of residence restrictions for sex offenders and the role of stigmatization in desistance processes.
Her publications span from 2007 to 2022, addressing diverse themes like near-repeat burglary patterns, surveillance strategies for public safety, and the application of social learning theory to sexual offenses. While no scientific awards are explicitly noted, her work reflects rigorous engagement with both theoretical and applied criminological questions.
