Tasha Dunn is an Associate Professor of Geology and Chair of the Geology Department at Colby College. She earned her Ph.D. (2008) and M.S. (2005) in Geology from the University of Tennessee, and a B.S. in Geology (2000) from Tulane University. After environmental consulting work, she transitioned to academia, serving as Assistant Professor at Illinois State University (2009-2013) before joining Colby in 2014, where she was promoted to Associate Professor in 2019.
- Research Focus: Thermal evolution of primitive asteroids, mineralogy/chemistry of meteorites, and integration of remote sensing with laboratory analyses.
- Key Contributions: Resolving CK-CV chondrite parent body questions through petrography and magnetite analysis; developing spectral calibrations for asteroid mineralogy.
Publications & Grants: 15+ refereed articles in Meteoritics and Planetary Science, Icarus, and book chapters in Asteroids IV. Principal investigator for NASA Cosmochemistry grants and Illinois State University Pre-tenure Faculty Initiative Grant.
- Scientific Recognition: Asteroid (8999) Tashadunn named in her honor; Excellence in Outreach awards; LPI Career Development Award.
- Education & Outreach: Developed planetary geology courses; conducted workshops for high school teachers and seniors; active public speaker at community events.
