Associate Professor Tariq Maqsood is a faculty member at RMIT University's School of Engineering, specializing in Civil & Infrastructure (L&T). He serves as Deputy Head of Department and has held academic roles including Senior Lecturer (2018–2023) and Research Associate at Bauhaus University (2006–2011). His research focuses on vulnerability and risk assessment of built environments from natural hazards, with over 20 years of contributions to disaster risk reduction initiatives globally. Notable projects include leading the flood loss estimation project under Natural Hazards Research Australia (2024–2027), and collaborations with UN Habitat, Geoscience Australia, and AusAID. He has authored over 50 publications across reports, conference papers, and journals. Tariq is open to supervising Masters and PhD students in his field.
His research interests encompass natural hazards, disaster management, earthquake engineering, flood resilience, and energy efficiency. He has conducted post-disaster surveys and contributed to international projects like the Global Earthquake Model (GEM) and UNISDR's Global Assessment Report. Professional experience includes roles as a Structural Engineer at Geoscience Australia (2011–2018) and Civil Engineer at National Highway Authority (2003–2004).
