Tara Velez

Dr. Tara Velez is a Senior Lecturer in Finance and Programme Director of the BSc Accounting and Management at Queen Mary University of London's School of Business and Management. She holds a PhD and MSc in Mathematical Finance from the University of London. Her expertise spans alternative investments, risk management, and data science applications in finance. She previously served as Programme Director for the MSc Finance (International Finance) at Westminster Business School. Velez is also a member of the Department of Accounting and Financial Management Board and mentors for the Teaching Recognition Programme (TRP). She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).

Education: PhD and MSc in Mathematical Finance, University of London.

Research focuses on data-driven financial innovations, factor investing, and performance analysis of physical assets across commodities, art, and real estate. Her work has been published in top journals like Journal of Alternative Investments and Journal of Wealth Management.

Teaching includes undergraduate courses such as Capital Markets and Securities, Financial Institutions, and Corporate Finance and Strategy, as well as postgraduate dissertation supervision. She actively contributes to pedagogical research on experiential learning and AI integration in education.
