Dr. Tara Mitchell Mielnik is an Associate Professor of History at Cumberland University, located at Labry Hall, Room 233. She transitioned to full-time faculty in 2017 after serving as an adjunct from 2013. She serves as Program Director in History since 2020.

Her research focuses on Public History, 20th-century American History, and the built environment. She specializes in World War I homefront dynamics, the Depression/New Deal era, and environmental history. Her work bridges historical preservation with academic scholarship, exemplified by her book New Deal, New Landscape and contributions to regional historical projects.
She actively participates in professional organizations, including the Tennessee State Review Board for the National Register of Historic Places and local historical councils. Dr. Mielnik emphasizes connecting local history to national themes and interdisciplinary studies in her teaching, offering courses like Environmental History and Museum Studies. She advises Pi Gamma Mu and engages with Phi Alpha Theta and Omicron Delta Kappa campus chapters.
