Tao Wang

Tao Wang is an Assistant Professor in the School of Computing Science at Simon Fraser University. His research focuses on anonymity networks, traffic analysis, privacy-enhancing technologies, and cybersecurity. He holds a PhD from the University of Waterloo (2016) and previously served as an Assistant Professor at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (2016-2020).

• Teaching: Computer security, privacy, discrete mathematics, and machine learning

Research emphasizes defending against website fingerprinting attacks and improving Tor network anonymity. His work includes developing defenses like Walkie-Talkie and Surakav, and analyzing traffic patterns in open-world scenarios. Current students include Alireza Akhbari (MSc), Rajat Biswas (MSc), and others.
