Tao Wang

Tao Wang is a Lecturer in the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering at the University of Strathclyde, Faculty of Engineering. His research is conducted within the Advanced Plasma Laboratory at the University Technological Innovation Centre, focusing on non-thermal plasma technology and its multidisciplinary applications.

His research interests center on non-thermal plasma technology, encompassing fundamental plasma phenomena, plasma physics and chemistry, gas discharge theory and methods, and particulate matter agglomeration in ionized environments. His team explores applications in air pollution control, plasma-liquid interfacial reactions, plasma-induced advanced oxidation processes, plasma chemical synthesis, and plasma medicine. This work aligns with several UN Sustainable Development Goals related to environmental sustainability and health.

The recent publications highlight a strong focus on gas discharge physics, breakdown characteristics, and transient behaviors in plasma switches and solid-gas interfaces. There is a consistent emphasis on high-voltage engineering, dielectric breakdown, and plasma diagnostics, with methodologies involving experimental analysis and computational modeling. Applications span environmental remediation, industrial processes, and biomedical technologies.

Tao Wang has served as Principal Investigator on multiple research projects, including the Newton Advanced Fellowship on pulsed discharge plasmas for water pollution treatment and industrial collaborations with Beijing Empyreal Environmental Engineering Ltd. He collaborates extensively with researchers such as Scott MacGregor and Mark Wilson. He is actively involved in supervising research and accepts PhD students in plasma medicine, oxidation processes, and environmental plasma applications.

His laboratory is equipped with advanced instrumentation including a Digital Phosphor Oscilloscope and High Voltage Power Supply, supporting experimental work in pulsed power and plasma diagnostics.
