Dr. Tao Ma is the Clark and Lois Webster Associate Professor of Accounting in the Lyons School of Accounting at Texas Tech University's Rawls College of Business. He joined Texas Tech in 2017 after serving as an assistant professor at the University of South Carolina. His research focuses on capital markets, auditing, and the role of accounting information in corporate decision-making. Key areas of expertise include R&D investment dynamics, audit quality, and financial reporting implications for capital allocation.
Education includes a PhD in Accounting from Washington University in St. Louis and a BBA in Accounting from the University of Texas at Brownsville. He teaches financial accounting and PhD-level courses on capital market research. In 2021, he received the Carl & Linda Stem Distinguished Faculty Research Award from the Rawls College.
His research has been published in top journals such as Contemporary Accounting Research, Review of Accounting Studies, and Journal of Financial Reporting. Major themes in his work include understanding how accounting information influences corporate behavior in capital markets, particularly regarding R&D strategy, audit quality, and executive compensation structures.
