Tanuja Mishra is an Assistant Professor of Design at the University of California, Davis. She holds an M.A. in Design, Art, Design and the Public Domain from Harvard University, an M.A. in Business Administration from the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, and a B.A. Tech. in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Jamia Millia Islamia.
Her research explores the intersection of critical/speculative design and social practice, focusing on historical/cultural implications of technology and equitable AI systems built on values of care and trust. She has exhibited internationally at institutions including Harvard's Arthur M. Sackler Museum, RISE Research Institutes of Sweden, and South Asian Visual Arts Centre in Toronto.
Through social practice collaborations with entities like the Uttar Pradesh Department of Tourism and Umeed for Women, she has designed community-based interventions. She previously taught at National Institute of Design Ahmedabad and Vancouver Island University.
She co-led the workshop Toward an SOS Design Manifesto at the 2023 IASDR Congress in Milan, developing principles for ecology, care, and shelter.
