معرفی
Tanmoy Laskar is an Assistant Professor of Physics & Astronomy at the University of Utah since August 2022. His research focuses on energetic astrophysical transients, particularly gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) and electromagnetic counterparts to gravitational wave sources. He leads a group analyzing multi-wavelength observations combined with theoretical modeling to explore extreme cosmic phenomena.
Education:
- BA, Physics (University of Cambridge, 2009)
- BS, Physics (University of Delhi, 2007)
- MA & PhD, Astronomy & Astrophysics (Harvard University, 2011–2015)
Research Interests: Relativistic explosions, GRB afterglows, jet dynamics, radio polarimetry, and cosmological transients. His work bridges observations with computational models to unravel mysteries of stellar evolution and fundamental physics.
Recent Work Trends: Focus on ALMA/VLA observations of GRBs, reverse shock dynamics, and magnetization studies. Recent papers emphasize polarimetry techniques, reverse-forward shock interactions, and high-redshift GRB analysis.
Awards:
- 2025 Faculty Fellows Award (University of Utah)
- 2025 Scialog Team Award (Research Corporation)
- 2021 Radboud Excellence Fellowship
Advising & Grants: Mentored over 10 students/postdocs since 2015. Active in observational programs using ALMA, VLA, and global telescopes. Advocates for LGBTQ+ inclusion in STEM through committee work and climate surveys.
Labs/Teams: Leads the University of Utah's astrophysics group, collaborating internationally on transient follow-up and polarization studies.
