Tanja Gulder holds the Chair of Organic Chemistry at Leipzig University, leading research in biomimetic catalysis and halogenation methodologies. Her group develops enzyme-inspired catalytic systems using hypervalent iodanes and fluorinated alcohols to enable selective carbon-halogen bond formation.
Education includes Diploma (2004) and Ph.D. (2008) from University of Würzburg, with postdoctoral work at Scripps Research Institute. Career trajectory includes Emmy Noether group leadership positions at RWTH Aachen and TU Munich before joining Leipzig in 2020.
Research integrates synthetic chemistry with enzyme engineering to develop sustainable halogenation methods applicable to antibiotic synthesis and material science. Current projects investigate supramolecular solvent effects and photoredox applications.
Honors include Fluorine Chemistry Publication Award (GDCh, 2023). Group participates in CRC 325 'Assembly Controlled Chemical Photocatalysis' and RTG 'Hydrogen Isotopes'. Manages interdisciplinary collaborations across Europe.
