Tania Ivanka is an Associate Lecturer in the School of Design at RMIT University, Australia. Her research focuses on sustainability, systemic thinking, and collaborative visualization, informed by her background in permaculture. She explores community resilience, healthcare co-design, and the interdependence of human settlements with ecological systems. Tania holds a Master of Design (2009) and is pursuing a PhD in Industrial Design at RMIT, investigating codesign for healthcare using participatory methods.
Her work includes projects like the Birds of a Feather initiative (2009–2010), which used co-design to enhance bushfire preparedness in Southern Otways, and collaborations with Swinburne University on occupational rehabilitation systems (2014–2015). She has received grants such as the Bushfire CRC award (2009) and the Premier’s Design Awards (2012). Tania teaches in the Bachelor of Communication Design program, emphasizing sustainability and systems thinking in curriculum design.
Her research outputs span participatory design, decolonizing methodologies, and visual communication for complex social challenges. She has presented at international conferences like the State of Design Festival and the Participatory Design Conference.
