Professor Tamsin Ford is a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Cambridge's School of Clinical Medicine, affiliated with Hughes Hall College and the Child and Adolescent Resilience and Mental Health Institute. A Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences (FMedSci) and the Royal College of Psychiatrists (FRCPsych), she was awarded a CBE for services to child and adolescent mental health.
Her research optimizes mental health interventions for children and young people, encompassing wellbeing and all service contexts beyond specialist mental health. Methodologically, she employs secondary epidemiological analysis, mixed-methods observational studies, economic evaluations, systematic reviews, and randomized controlled trials, with special focus on education-mental health interfaces. Current work emphasizes transitions in care, non-suicidal self-injury, and adversity impacts.
Recent publications (2023-2025) reveal consistent focus on child/adolescent mental health through network analysis and longitudinal designs. Key trends include ADHD/eating disorder service transitions, gender-specific self-injury patterns, multimorbidity in severe mental illness, and pandemic-related distress predictors across global and UK populations.
Her honors include:
- Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences (FMedSci)
- Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (FRCPsych)
- Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE)
Actively supervising PhD students, Professor Ford leads multi-disciplinary collaborations spanning psychology, pediatrics, education, epidemiology, and health economics. Her translational research integrates clinical practice with policy development through strong NHS and international partnerships.
Based at Cambridge Neuroscience, she contributes to Lifelong Brain Development and Social Brain research themes through the Child and Adolescent Resilience and Mental Health Institute, driving interdisciplinary approaches to youth mental health resilience.
