Tampakaki Anastasia

Professor Anastasia Tampakaki is a faculty member at the Department of Agriculture, School of Agricultural Sciences, Hellenic Mediterranean University. She specializes in Molecular Microbiology with a focus on plant-microbe interactions, rhizobia biology, and sustainable agricultural practices. Her roles include Dean of the School of Agricultural Sciences (2024–present), and prior positions at the Agricultural University of Athens as Professor of Molecular Microbiology (2006–2021).

Education: PhD in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (University of Crete, 1999), MSc in Molecular Biology (University of Crete, 1993), Diploma in Biology (University of Crete, 1991). Postdoctoral training at Harvard Medical School (2001–2002) and the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology in Greece (1999–2001).

Research interests span microbial community dynamics, biofilm formation, and the application of molecular tools for crop improvement. Her work emphasizes sustainable agriculture through bioinoculant development, nitrogen cycling optimization, and legume-based systems. Key projects include studying quorum sensing in Salmonella and developing eco-efficient crop solutions.

Professional service includes membership in the Internal Evaluation Group (OM.E.A) of the Department of Agriculture (2021–present) and leadership in the Sector of Plant Protection and Biotechnological Applications (2022–2024). She is affiliated with the Institute of Agri-Food and Life Sciences research center.

Her recent publications focus on microbial modeling, rhizobial genetics, and stress tolerance mechanisms in crops. Current research integrates systems biology approaches and image-based analytics to understand microbial interactions at cellular and population levels.
