معرفی
Tammy Buonasera is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Alaska, holding a PhD from the University of Arizona (2013). Her research focuses on biomolecular archaeology, experimental archaeology, and the intersection of food processing technologies with gender and social roles in hunter-gatherer societies.
Research Interests:
- Biomolecular techniques (proteomics, lipid analysis, stable isotopes)
- Past diets, health, and mortality patterns
- Economic and social aspects of food processing technologies
- Hunter-gatherer archaeology in California, Alaska, and Anatolia
- Gendered analysis of prehistoric technologies and labor
Her work employs experimental methods to reconstruct ancient practices, such as analyzing lipid residues in cooking features and tooth enamel proteins to study health. She has contributed to studies on sex-based mortality, female hunting roles, and the economic value of mortuary tools.
Teaching: Courses include Introduction to Anthropology, Biological Anthropology, Experimental Archaeology, and Molecular/Isotopic Research in Archaeology.
Regional Focus: Research spans California, the southwestern U.S., northwestern Alaska, and Anatolia, emphasizing cross-cultural comparisons in subsistence strategies and social organization.
