Tammi Arford

Tammi Arford, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Crime & Justice Studies at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. Her primary affiliation is with the College of Arts & Sciences, where she occupies office Liberal Arts 399F. She holds dual academic appointments in related programs including Black Studies, Women's and Gender Studies, and Pre-Law.

Dr. Arford received a PhD and MA in Sociology from Northeastern University (2013, 2008) and a BA in Anthropology from the University of Florida (2006). Her research focuses on punishment and social control mechanisms, cultural criminology, and transformative justice. She explores topics like penal tourism, historic memory of carceral systems, and resistance within prisons.

Her scholarly contributions address ethical dimensions of prison spectatorship and penal abolitionist theories. Key research initiatives include the Transformative Justice Certificate Program funded by a $149,992 award from the MA Department of Higher Education.
