Tamlyn Watermeyer is an Associate Professor in the Psychology Department at Northumbria University. She maintains an honorarium affiliation with the University of Edinburgh. Her research focuses on identifying biological, cognitive, and social determinants of early cognitive changes in aging and neurodegenerative diseases (e.g., Alzheimer's, Parkinson's), with a focus on underrepresented populations like people with learning disabilities and global majority communities. She leads the Neurosciences Research Venture (NeRVe) lab and co-founded initiatives like FemBER and AFRICA-FINGERS.
Education: BSc (Hons) Psychology from the University of St Andrews (2009), PhD in Psychology from King’s College London (2014) funded by the Medical Research Council. Postdoctoral work at Bangor University and the University of Edinburgh followed.
Research interests include cross-cultural cognitive assessment methodologies, dementia prevention strategies, and global health equity. Current projects include the RAD Study (Down syndrome cognitive assessment) and Brain Health Bridge (global majority engagement). She collaborates internationally via consortia like GloDePP and ECcRoN.
