Tamler Sommers

Tamler Sommers is an Assistant Professor of Philosophy at the University of Houston, with a Ph.D. in Philosophy from Rice University (2005). He is a Faculty Fellow at Tulane University's Center for Ethics for 2011-2012.

Sommers' research focuses on moral psychology, free will, and moral responsibility, often examining the interplay between cultural diversity and ethical frameworks. He has authored two books: Relative Justice: Cultural Diversity, Free Will, and Moral Responsibility (Princeton University Press, 2011) and A Very Bad Wizard: Morality Behind the Curtain (McSweeney’s, 2009), the latter being a series of interviews with philosophers and scientists.

His recent publications explore experimental philosophy, revenge, and hard incompatibilism in journals like Philosophy Compass, Biology and Philosophy, and Philosophical Quarterly. He also contributes regularly to the Times Literary Supplement and conducts interviews for The Believer.
