Taiyun Chi is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Rice University, affiliated with the Rice Integrated Systems and Electromagnetics (RISE) Lab and Rice Wireless. He joined Rice in January 2019 after earning his B.S. (with highest honors) from the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) in 2012 and his Ph.D. from Georgia Institute of Technology in 2017.
His research focuses on analog/RF/mmWave integrated circuits for high-speed wireless communication and bio-sensors/stimulators for neuro-engineering. Notable contributions include advancements in Doherty power amplifiers, millimeter-wave transceivers, and ultrasonic biomedical sensing systems.
Dr. Chi has received prestigious awards such as the NSF CAREER Award (2023), IEEE CICC Best Paper Award (2017), and Sigma Xi Best Thesis Award (2018). His RISE group has also garnered multiple best paper recognitions, including IEEE RFIC and IMS finalists.
His work bridges cutting-edge circuit design with biomedical applications, emphasizing energy-efficient wireless systems and non-invasive medical technologies. The lab actively explores AI-driven RFIC design and physical-layer security for IoT devices.
