Taina Pihlajarinne is a Professor of Copyright Law and Docent of Commercial Law at the University of Helsinki's Faculty of Law. She serves as a Supervisor for the Doctoral Programme in Law and is a key member of the Helsinki Institute of Sustainability Science (HELSUS). Previously, she held the position of Vice Dean for Research (2018-2021) and has led research projects securing over €1.8 million in competitive funding since 2012.
Her research bridges intellectual property rights with sustainability, digitalization, and technological innovation. Key interests include:
- Regulatory impacts on sustainable innovation ecosystems
- Copyright law in circular economies
- AI's legal challenges in content creation
- IPR frameworks for green transitions
Recent publications (2024-2025) focus on sustainable lifespans of materials, SME innovation in circular economies, and IPR alignment with UN Sustainable Development Goals, reflecting interdisciplinary work at the law-technology-sustainability nexus.
