Adjunct Professor Tahara Akmal teaches in the Chaplaincy program at Moravian Theological Seminary, part of Moravian University, and serves as the Director of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) and ACPE Certified Educator at Reading Hospital in Reading, PA.
Her educational background includes:

Tahara Akmal's research and professional interests center on end-of-life care practices across multiple religions (Judaism, Catholicism, Islam, and Buddhism) and Islamic medical ethics concerning organ transplantation, defining death, and life-sustaining devices. She has developed innovative theories for teaching interfaith ministry rooted in Islamic theology, humanistic psychology, pastoral care, and adult education, making significant contributions to chaplaincy education.
She has been honored with the following award:
- Muslim American Chaplain’s Association Lifetime Achievement Award (2016)
As an ACPE Supervisor, Tahara Akmal supervises chaplaincy students in clinical pastoral education. She made history in May 2015 as the first Muslim woman certified as an ACPE Associate Supervisor since the organization's inception in 1967, and achieved Full ACPE Supervisor certification in March 2016. Her work in training future chaplains has been instrumental in advancing interfaith understanding.
Her primary professional setting is Reading Hospital where she directs the Clinical Pastoral Education program, integrating her expertise in end-of-life care and interfaith ministry into practical training for chaplains.
