Dr. Taeil Kim is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Baylor University, where he leads the Biosensors Lab. His research focuses on developing wearable, sustainable, and integrated biomedical sensor systems for real-time health monitoring.
- Ph.D., Mechatronic Systems Engineering, Simon Fraser University (2019)
- M.S., Management Engineering, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (2004)
- B.S., Materials Science & Engineering, Pohang University of Science and Technology (2002)
Dr. Kim's research spans integrated biosensor systems, wearable technologies, and sustainable biomedical devices. His work emphasizes 3D-printed, flexible, wireless, and battery-free sensors made from biocompatible materials. These systems are designed for non-invasive, continuous monitoring of physiological signals such as sweat electrolytes, pH, temperature, and vital signs.
The recent publications highlight a strong trend toward fully 3D-printed, multi-modal wearable bioelectronics. These systems integrate advanced nanomaterials and wireless communication for real-time, battery-free operation. Research themes include biocompatibility, disposability, sustainability, and seamless integration with the human body.
Scientific recognitions include:
- Frontispiece Highlight in Advanced Materials Technologies (2021)
- Journal Front Cover in Advanced Materials Technologies (2019)
- Journal Front Cover in Advanced Electronic Materials (2019)
Dr. Kim has taught BME 5360: Introduction to Biomedical Engineering at Baylor University. His research has been supported through postdoctoral positions at Seoul National University, Simon Fraser University, and the University of California Irvine. He advises students in the Biosensors Lab, where he mentors talent in wearable bioelectronics and sensor innovation.
