Dr. Tae Oh is a Professor at the School of Information, part of the Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences (GCCIS) at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). He also serves as Director of Strategic Initiatives and Innovation at RIT's National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID). His academic and professional journey includes over 18 years in networking and telecommunications, with prior roles as a Principal Systems Engineer at Rockwell Collins, focusing on military applications like Mobile Ad-hoc Networks (MANET) and security architecture.
Education: BS in Electrical Engineering from Texas Tech University (1991), MS and PhD in Electrical Engineering (Computer Networks) from Southern Methodist University (1995, 2001).
Research focuses on Vehicular Networks, Mobile Device Security, IoT Security, Machine Learning, and Assistive Technologies such as the Intelligent Mobility Cane for the visually impaired. His work bridges academia and industry, securing funding from NSF, DoD, and ETRI. Over 17 journal articles, 5 book chapters, 8 IETF drafts, and 97+ conference papers reflect his prolific output.
Awards include the 2021 KIAT Appreciation Award, IEEE Communication Magazine Award, and multiple grants. His teaching spans IoT Foundations, Mobile/Wearable HCI, and Security courses. Research groups actively explore vehicular networks, malware detection, and accessibility technologies.
