Dr. Ta-Wei Guu is an Honorary Research Psychiatrist at South London and Maudsley NHS Trust since October 2021, affiliated with King's College London's Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN). His PhD from KCL (2024) focused on the STAND-S study, exploring sleep, circadian rhythms, and wearable technology in dementia. He completed postgraduate training at National Taiwan University Hospital and held visiting positions at Stanford Sleep Medicine Center and China Medical University hospitals. He has led the educational division in his hospital’s Department of Education and Research since 2017. His research emphasizes sleep disturbances, depression, and dementia, with a focus on wearable technology's role in neuropsychiatric care.
Dr. Guu’s awards include the 2013 Young Scientist Award (WFSBP Congress) and 2018 Young Investigator Award (ASSM Congress), alongside domestic recognition for excellence in education. His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to good health and well-being (SDG 3). Key contributions include studies on clozapine-resistant schizophrenia, omega-3 fatty acids in depression, and the feasibility of wearable devices in aging populations.
His research networks span global collaborations, addressing topics like pandemic mental health (COH-FIT studies) and retinal biomarkers for neurodegenerative diseases. Ongoing projects include trials on agitation management in dementia and photobiomodulation for depression.
