TJ Hammond is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Windsor, leading the Attosecond Condensed Matter Experiments (ACME) group. He obtained his BSc (Honors) from the University of Winnipeg, followed by an MSc and PhD from the University of British Columbia. His postdoctoral work was conducted at the University of Ottawa and the National Research Council Canada under Paul Corkum's supervision.
His research focuses on ultrafast light-matter interactions, particularly strong-field physics in condensed matter systems. Key areas include attosecond science, high harmonic generation, and nonlinear optics, with applications in photonics, electronics, and environmental monitoring. The ACME lab investigates femtosecond and attosecond phenomena, such as Kerr instability amplification and four-wave mixing, while developing technologies for ultrafast measurements and spectral analysis.
Hammond has mentored numerous graduate and undergraduate students, many of whom have pursued advanced studies or careers in medicine, physics, and engineering. His teaching interests span electromagnetism, lasers, and experimental physics, emphasizing hands-on learning with Python and Arduino projects.
Recent research highlights include advancements in pulse amplification techniques, studies on material optical properties (e.g., 1-decanol), and environmental applications like FTIR-based phosphorus detection. Collaborations with institutions such as the National Research Council Canada underscore his interdisciplinary approach to advancing ultrafast optics and attoscience.
