Terry Gaasterland is a Professor of Marine Biology at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UC San Diego, and Director of the Scripps Genome Center. His research focuses on genomics, metagenomics, and bioinformatics, with applications to microbial genetics, cancer biology, and stem cell differentiation. He holds a B.S. in Computer Science and Russian from Duke University, and a M.S. and Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Maryland, College Park.
