Dr. T.J. Thomson is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Communication within Queensland University of Technology. His research focuses on visual communication, photojournalism ethics, and digital media identity practices. He holds a PhD and MA in Journalism from the University of Missouri, along with a Graduate Certificate in Qualitative Research.

Key awards include the Diane S Hope Book of the Year Award (2020) and the AEJMC Visual Communication Teaching Excellence Award (2021). He actively contributes to academic leadership as ICA Visual Communication Division's International Liaison (2020) and serves as Associate Editor for Visual Communication Quarterly (2017). His supervision includes research on digitally mediated martyrdom imagery and digital publics formation.
