Prof. Dr. Ir. T. (Taade) Tillema is a Professor by special appointment in Transport Geography at the University of Groningen's Faculty of Spatial Sciences, Department of Economic Geography. He concurrently serves as a Strategic Advisor at the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management (IenW), bridging academic research with policy implementation. His research focuses on rural accessibility, mobility patterns, and smart mobility solutions, with three core themes: accessibility perception, rural-urban mobility dynamics, and innovative rural transport systems.
Education: Civil Engineering & Management (University of Twente), PhD in Transport Pricing Policies (Utrecht University), Postdoc on digital communication and mobility (Utrecht University), and visiting researcher at MIT's Civil & Environmental Engineering. His career includes roles as project manager in the 'Sustainable Roads' program, senior researcher at KiM, and knowledge coordinator for the Dutch Parliament.
Research interests emphasize the interplay between transport infrastructure, spatial planning, and policy, with a focus on reducing rural-urban divides through equitable mobility solutions. His work integrates theoretical frameworks with practical policy applications, addressing challenges like multimodal integration and governance of rural mobility hubs.
