Sławomir Wiak

Prof. Sławomir Wiak served as Rector of Lodz University of Technology (2016–2020), leading significant institutional reforms, including improved faculty rankings, infrastructure investments (e.g., Sports Bay, Alchemium building), and international collaborations. As an academic, he heads the Institute of Mechatronics and Information Systems, focusing on electromagnetics, mechatronics, and medical applications of nanotechnology. His tenure emphasized modernizing education through innovative methods like Problem-Based Learning and Design Thinking, and establishing the University IT Center for digital integration. Key achievements include securing EU and Polish grants, elevating the university’s global rankings, and fostering industry partnerships through clusters like ICT and LODZistics. Post-rectorship, he continues research in MEMS, virtual reality education, and biomedical engineering.
