Søren Skov

Professor Søren Skov serves in the Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences within the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at the University of Copenhagen. His laboratory (Skovlab) focuses on the regulation of immune activation during compromised immune-homeostasis across multiple disease contexts including cancer, bacterial infections (primarily Staphylococcus aureus), autoimmunity, and transplantation.

Skov's primary research explores the regulation of immunity in vitro and in vivo, with specific expertise in NK cells, γ/δ T lymphocytes, conventional T lymphocytes, and macrophages. His work bridges fundamental immunological mechanisms with translational applications, particularly in understanding how pathogens like Staphylococcus aureus manipulate host immune responses and how these interactions can be therapeutically targeted.

Analysis of his recent publications reveals a strong focus on macrophage biology in bacterial infections, CRISPR-Cas9 applications in stem cell transplantation, sickle cell disease therapeutics, and immune checkpoint mechanisms. His work spans molecular immunology, infectious disease research, and translational medicine with significant emphasis on host-pathogen interactions and immune regulation in disease states.

Professor Skov teaches multiple immunology courses including Basic Immunology (SBIK19001U), Current and Experimental Immunology (SBIK19002U), and Basic and Applied Immunology (PhD course). He has collaborated with numerous private enterprises including Novo Nordisk A/S, Glycom/DSM, Macrophage Pharma, Klox Technologies, Cytovac A/S, HHC Medical, Amniotics AB, and Defymed. He also provides paid teaching for courses organized by MSC/MSConsult.

His Skovlab maintains active research in immunological mechanisms across cancer, infection, autoimmunity, and transplantation contexts, with particular emphasis on cellular immune responses to Staphylococcus aureus and immune regulation in hematological disorders.
