Sönke Dangendorf

Sönke Dangendorf is the David and Jane Flowerree Assistant Professor in the Department of River-Coastal Science and Engineering at Tulane University's School of Science & Engineering. He holds a Dipl.-Ing. (2010) and PhD in Coastal Engineering (2014) from the University of Siegen, Germany. His research focuses on sea-level variability, coastal flooding, storm surges, and climate-ocean interactions, with contributions to the IPCC Special Report on the Ocean and Cryosphere.

His publications emphasize data-driven reconstructions of sea-level changes, impacts of ocean circulation on coastal systems, and climate attribution studies. Recent work explores tidal variability, extreme flood events, and economic aspects of coastal resilience.

Dr. Dangendorf advises graduate and undergraduate researchers and holds editorial roles at Scientific Data (Nature portfolio). He contributes to NASA’s sea-level science team but has no documented scientific awards.
