Sébastien Roy

Sébastien Roy is an Associate Professor at the Department of Computer Science and Operations Research, Université de Montréal, and directs the 3D Vision Laboratory. His research focuses on computer vision, particularly 3D reconstruction from images, motion analysis in video sequences, and multi-projector systems for immersive visualization. He emphasizes theoretical approaches and practical implementations for industrial transfer, with additional interest in artistic and cultural applications.

• Research Interests: 3D reconstruction, probabilistic models (Markov Random Fields), occlusion and scale challenges in large image datasets, stereo vision, motion estimation, and immersive projection systems.
• Projects: Principal investigator in grants from NSERC, FRQNT, and FRQSC. Notable projects include full 3D immersion systems, probabilistic scanning for handheld 3D reconstruction, intelligent video surveillance for fall prevention, and interdisciplinary research-creation initiatives.
• Students: Supervised 20+ graduate students in fields like computer vision, optical flow, camera calibration, and stereo algorithms.
