Prof. Dr. Sándor Baran is a full professor at the University of Debrecen, Faculty of Informatics, where he heads the Department of Applied Mathematics and Probability Theory. In addition to his departmental leadership, he serves as Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs and Grants, playing a central role in research coordination and grant management at the faculty level. He is located in the Faculty of Informatics building (room I212, 2nd floor, Kassai út 26, 4028 Debrecen).
His research spans the mathematical foundations of probability, statistics, and their practical applications. Core interests include:
- Probability theory: limit theorems and stochastic processes;
- Mathematical statistics: asymptotics of estimators and hypothesis tests;
- Random fields: parameter estimation for discrete and continuous models;
- Probabilistic forecasting: statistical methods for weather prediction;
- Interdisciplinary applications in biology, geology and medicine;
- Financial mathematics and network modeling.
These themes are reflected in the department's research profile and in the advanced courses he teaches, such as numerical mathematics, probability and mathematical statistics, and neural networks.
