Dr. Marcinczak's primary research interests focus on urban social geography, particularly patterns and processes of social and racial-ethnic segregation. His work examines the relationship between income inequality and spatial segregation, social divisions across different domains of everyday life (residence, work, recreation), and the emerging concept of vertical urbanism. He also investigates economic geography and transport geography, with emphasis on commuting patterns, urban structure impacts, environmental costs of commuting, and the evolution of polycentric urban forms.
His scholarly output reveals consistent engagement with post-socialist urban transformations, residential segregation patterns, and urban structure dynamics across Europe. Dr. Marcinczak's research demonstrates a multidisciplinary approach that bridges geography, urban studies, sociology, and environmental justice. His work often employs comparative methodologies across European cities, with particular attention to Poland, Germany, Romania, and other Central and Eastern European contexts. The temporal scope of his research spans from historical analyses of socialist-era urban structures to contemporary examinations of 21st century urban challenges.
Dr. Marcinczak maintains active research collaborations across Europe, having worked at institutions including the University of Tartu (Estonia) and Umeå University (Sweden). His work appears in numerous scholarly publications focused on urban geography, segregation studies, and post-socialist urban transformations.
