Synne Tollerud Bull is a Professor and Pro-Dean of Research at the School of Arts, Design, and Media, Kristiania University of Applied Sciences. Her work bridges media art, research, and academia, focusing on emerging technologies like drones and AI, and their impact on visual culture and societal structures. She co-developed the concept of 'proxistant vision,' analyzing how technologies shape perception and power.
Education: PhD in Media Studies (University of Oslo), MA in Art History (University of Oslo), MFA and BFA in New Genres (San Francisco Art Institute). She has held visiting researcher positions at the University of Chicago and UC Berkeley, and previously served as Head of the Westerdals Department of Film and Media.
Research interests include urban ecologies, media archaeology, and environmental humanities. Notable projects include Urban Ecologies (2020–2025), Media Seas of the High North Atlantic (2021–2025), and collaborations with Dragan Miletic under the artist duo Bull.Miletic, whose works are in major collections like the National Museum of Norway.
Awards include the 2020 Japan Media Arts Festival Excellence Award. Key publications include Proxistant Vision (MIT Press, 2025), Screen Space Reconfigured (2020), and Urban Images (2011).
